What is AML screening

AML screening is the process of checking a wallet, customer, or transaction for signals that may indicate sanctions exposure, obfuscation, fraud risk, or other compliance concerns.

What a screen looks for

A crypto AML screen typically looks for direct and indirect connections to sanctioned entities, mixers, darknet-related services, theft indicators, scam labels, and unusual source-of-funds patterns.

In practice, this means examining wallet metadata, known entity lists, public intelligence overlays, and live on-chain context before funds are sent or accepted.

Why it matters

Wallet screening helps reduce the chance of accepting risky incoming funds or sending assets into a wallet that later causes exchange flags, manual compliance review, or account restrictions.

It is especially useful in P2P trading, merchant acceptance, OTC settlement, treasury operations, and exchange deposit review.

What screening does not replace

A first-pass AML check is useful, but it does not replace deeper transaction analysis, case documentation, source-of-funds review, or legal escalation when risk is elevated.
